Check a Chrome Print Preview Before Wasting Paper or Sharing a PDF

by AEPC / AKL East PC 27 Sep 2026

A webpage can look correct on screen and still produce an incomplete or impractical printout. Check the preview before sending a long document to the printer, particularly when the page contains tables, account details or material that loads as you scroll.

Inspect the output, not just the page

Open the intended page in Chrome and use Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on a Mac. Read the selected destination first. A previous printer or PDF destination may still be selected; a recognisable document title does not tell you where the output will go.

Review the preview from the first page to the last. Look for missing columns, unexpected blank pages and a final paragraph that has been cut off. Adjust the available page range, orientation or other print settings to suit the content, then inspect the preview again. Do not assume that reducing the page count preserved everything important.

Use a small acceptance check

For a large paper job, print a representative page before sending the whole set. Check that small text is readable and the chosen paper size matches the document. For a PDF, choose Save as PDF and save to a clearly identified folder, then open that saved file independently and inspect its page count and contents.

A PDF saved from a website is a snapshot of the resulting print layout. Interactive controls and content omitted by that layout may not be useful in the saved version. If the service provides an official download or statement export, compare whether that is the better record for your purpose.

Before sharing, check for private account information, headers and unwanted pages. Keep the file local until you have confirmed the intended recipient and content. A successful save or completed printer queue establishes delivery of output, not correctness of the document.
