MacBook Air Apple-Silicon Power Path: Battery protection lockout | Auckland
Pattern to record: The Mac works on external power but the battery remains unavailable or reports implausible data.
Use the correct Mac power design
Use the exact Apple-silicon MacBook Air model to identify its charging ports and supported adapter. A black display alone does not prove the Mac is unpowered; check for other startup signs before pursuing the input circuit. One possible explanation is that battery safety electronics have disconnected output after an abnormal condition.
Power and data precautions
Mac batteries and logic boards must be isolated with model-appropriate procedures. A swollen or overheated battery must not be charged for diagnosis.
Model-specific checks
- Verify the correct charger, inspect all ports and separate display absence from true no-power behaviour.
- Inspect battery condition and communication before attempting any approved reset or replacement.
Repair and startup verification
If the checks support this cause, replace an unsafe or non-communicating battery with the exact compatible pack. Verification should cover cold start, charging on each supported port, battery operation, sleep, wake and restart.
