Desktop SATA Data Path: Damaged SATA data cable
Pattern to record: Movement or chassis pressure changes detection.
Identify the connection
Desktop SATA uses a motherboard data port plus a separate drive power connection. Keep the drive identity and port order recorded, especially in a RAID setup, when comparing a cable or port. A damaged SATA data cable or its connector can interrupt the signal between the drive and motherboard.
Protect the drive
Power down before moving internal SATA cables. Patching high-speed conductors can create unreliable signal integrity.
Workshop checks for this path
- Compare a known cable and port and review interface error counters.
- Inspect the full cable route and test continuity with power isolated.
Repair and data checks
If the checks support this cause, replace the exact cable and correct its routing. Verification should cover cold boot, sustained transfer, restart, sleep and error counters.
For an assessment of your desktop computer, contact AEPC in Burswood or call 027 908 8880. Provide the model and the conditions that reproduce this problem. Workshop visits are by appointment.
