Convertible Laptop 360-Degree Hinge: Missing hinge spacer | Auckland
Pattern to record: The hinge drags on the casing or the lid is offset after reassembly.
Locate the moving or damaged part
A convertible hinge has a specified rotation range and cable route for laptop, tent and tablet positions. Stop at the first abnormal resistance rather than forcing a full rotation to demonstrate the fault. One possible explanation is that a washer, sleeve or designed gap is absent after earlier work.
Support the assembly
Do not force a convertible hinge past a tight point because bonded display damage is costly. Improvised washers can interfere with cables or change screw depth.
Mechanical inspection
- Test movement only within the safe range, inspect rotation stops and compare sensor behaviour with mechanical alignment.
- Compare the assembly with the model's parts layout and the opposite side.
Fit and movement after repair
If the checks support this cause, fit the correct spacer and restore the intended stack order. Verification should cover all supported positions, mode sensing, touch, display, cable clearance and sleep.
