Convertible Laptop 360-Degree Hinge: Loose hinge pivot | Auckland
Pattern to record: The screen falls backward or changes angle with light vibration.
Locate the moving or damaged part
A convertible hinge has a specified rotation range and cable route for laptop, tent and tablet positions. Stop at the first abnormal resistance rather than forcing a full rotation to demonstrate the fault. One possible explanation is that wear inside the pivot has reduced holding torque.
Support the assembly
Do not force a convertible hinge past a tight point because bonded display damage is costly. Over-tightening an unserviceable pivot can deform its bracket.
Mechanical inspection
- Test movement only within the safe range, inspect rotation stops and compare sensor behaviour with mechanical alignment.
- Support the display and compare free play at both pivots.
Fit and movement after repair
If the checks support this cause, replace the worn hinge or approved friction component and retighten mounts to specification. Verification should cover all supported positions, mode sensing, touch, display, cable clearance and sleep.
