Test Logitech Flow Between Two Computers Before Sharing Real Work

by AEPC / AKL East PC 27 Sep 2026

Controlling two computers with one mouse can make a desk easier to use. Sharing their clipboard also creates a path for text and files to cross between them. Set up that path deliberately, especially when one computer is personal and the other belongs to an employer.

Confirm the supported pair of computers

Logitech Flow requires supported hardware and Logi Options+ on the participating computers. Logitech documents pairing the mouse to separate channels, connecting the computers to the same network and enabling Flow on each. Its setup instructions also require internet access for the initial connection.

Use only computers between which you are allowed to transfer the relevant work. On an organisation's network, ask its administrator to resolve blocked communication through the approved configuration; do not disable the firewall to make discovery succeed.

Start with both computers awake and logged in. Match Flow's computer arrangement to the actual desk. If crossing a screen edge is too easy to trigger accidentally, the documented Ctrl-plus-edge option makes switching more deliberate.

Prove control and transfer separately

First move the pointer between computers and confirm which screen is active. If a compatible keyboard is linked, test it with a harmless word in a blank document on each destination. Do not assume mouse movement alone proves keyboard following.

Then enable copy and paste only if you need it. Copy a short test sentence or a non-sensitive sample file and paste it on the other computer. Logitech documents clipboard transfer, not dragging a file directly across screens. Open the pasted file and confirm its contents.

Keep the original until the copy is verified. A successful transfer also does not mean the destination has an application capable of opening every file type.

For work that must stay on one computer, disable the transfer feature or Flow as appropriate to your policy. Logitech allows Flow to be temporarily disabled without discarding its arrangement. Review the setup again when replacing a computer so an old desk configuration does not direct input or data somewhere unexpected.
